Missperception grew up in the sleepy town of Selby, in the Yorkshire region of the UK.
Her musical intrigue started as a young child by joining guitar, recorder and keyboard lessons,
and even dance classes (until her tutu fell down in a performance once and that ended her dreams of wanting to be a ballet
dancer!)
During her teenage years she turned into a bit of a rebel and school turned into chore, there
was much more excitement, chemistry and experimentation going on outside of the school gates rather than been stuck in a ‘chemistry’
lesson for misperception.
Musically at the time, the acid house period was on the flow as well as the rave scene, dj sy
mix tapes was often heard seeping through the walls of misperceptions bedroom.
Not just only rave music was heard on misperceptions stereo, but the sweet sounds of arrested
development, stereo mcs, del la soul, public enemy, nwa, happy Mondays, stone roses, inspiral carpet, etc..
Even at this young age misperception seemed to have an eclectic musical taste, maybe a bit of
bad musical taste too, as she once supported the letters e.m.f shaved into the back of her hair, Yes we all have musical skeletons
in our cupboards!
At the age of 15/16 she ventured out into a local club known as the ‘mad house’
that evening dj nipper was playing, white gloves and whistle galore hit misperceptions wide opened eyes, from then the nightclub
life was something to stay close to her heart. (But not the white gloves and whistles!)
At the tender age of 17 she met a guy from York who was a dj, love and the ‘e’ culture
was in the air!
A short time after she fell pregnant and became married, this wasn’t to stop her going
out on extreme nights as she would be their supporting her husbands nights and designing backdrops for them, and venturing
to other underground nights that was going down over the years.
The millennium struck and she and her family moved to London, this is where she decided to finally
have a play with The turntables that had always been present within her household but had never touched them.
After a short time she played out for her first time at a house party for a producer called
john smart, this is where she met Trevor fung, he was her favourite dj back from the early 90’s,
Trevor tried getting misperception to play at the bug bar in Brixton but she was to scared to
at the time, she often kicks herself over that one!
By 2002 her marriage finally ended and she moved back ‘up north’ to her roots and
family, and became a strong-minded single mother on a mission..
She had returned home with her daughter, clothes and records,
Over time she saved and bought her own 1210s and started playing in nearby city of York, in
a bar,
Friday and Saturday nights, soul, funk, hip hop, world music hit the decks in there, but still
having a rebel streak she would sly in some aphex twin when the cost was clear, this carried on for around a year and a half.
Other nights she has being involved with are;
No shanty – underground house
Platform five – techno, house, old skool
Funkshion – funk,d&b, hip-hop
Atom- techno, house
42- eclectic genres
Sleazy sundaze – chilled experimental

She has also worked co-siding along with eyeballtoast, doing visuals for r3tox with ignition
technician and mark turner playing.
And visuals for Steve Lawler in hull.
Most recently she has been playing a night called adulterated and atom playing her own music
on Ableton live, in the short future she is to play a number of live sets in the uk and d0 another set on equinox pirate radio.
For the last two years she has been studying music technology at the jam factory in York,
Learning about, music tech, studio work, engineering, keyboard lessons, music business, to name
a few..
Also she has been involved in hosting music technology workshops in secondary schools and music
therapy classes at a mental hospital, which she finds very enjoyable sharing her knowledge to those who are interested too,
Misperception also teaches programming from home in her spare time, she loves to help those
who would like to learn how to make music because she knows how it feels from been frustrated the first ever time you look
at a sequencer.
When writing music herself she likes to experiment and not just stick to one style of music,
but techno and chilled vibes is deep within her heart.
Missperception has a passion for life, family, friends and music, without these she would not
be who she is today.
Her involvement with music has been going for many years, and will continue for many years to
come.
