Who is GUERRILLA SOUL......
Amir Alexander was born into a family that placed high value upon good music. his mother
was a soloist in the church chior. his father was an avid music collector. Amir recieved his first records and turntable at
the age of three. his first official d.j. gig was his 4th birthday party. he began playing records at his mother's tupperware
parties shortly thereafter. Amir officially began his pursuit of the creation of music in the sixth grade via playing the
tuba in middle school band. it was at this time that he developed an appreciation for the masters (Bach, Beethooven...Mozart)
as he began to be exposed to them by his band director, Mr. David Vezetti. by 8th grade, amir began to show great potential
by auditioning, and being accepted to the all state honor band. it was full steam ahead after that point. numerous local and
national honors, a full music scholarship, and several superior solo perfomances ensued. upon being introduced to the likes
of John Coletrane, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus and Billie Hollyday, his principal instrument changed from
tuba to upright string bass. it was around this time that amir began to hear the call of the underground dancefloor after
being introduced to the sounds of d.j. Larry Levan. Amir was persuing a degree in music education, and jazz composition when
he pulled a Kanye and dropped out due to financial difficulties. undaunted, Amir began to seriously persue cultivating his
d.j./producer chops. he was blessed to be a part of several vibrant "scenes" throughout the u.s. during the 90's. all the
while studying the ins and outs, the music, and the history of the global dance movement. always one to be found on the dancefloor,
Amir is a dancer first. it is through this intimate knowledge of what it is to be a devoted dancer he is informed as a musician.
having held residencies on the east and west coasts as well as the midwest, Amir has been able to connect with clubheads nationwide.
humbled by the many wonderful experiences, Amir seeks to be a servant. of both the lord, giver of his musical gifts, and to
the dancers. who physically manifest the music we all love. drawing on fifteen years of experince as a d.j. amir seeks to
progeress the artform, and advance the culture that has given him so much. Having joined forces with mr. G. Marcell, Amir
is taking his vision to the next level as he is now a signed artist on BearatoneRecordings imprint. expect great things......
the best is yet to come.
